How did you get started making music?

I’ve always been a very musical person. I started on guitar, then went to clarinet, then bass clarinet, but I started writing full-fledged songs when I was about 13. Before that, I used to write little poems and make up songs about things right in front of me – and I mean, I’d make a song about absolutely anything! Music has always been a big way for me to process my emotions.

What songs would be on the playlist of your life and why?

Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield. This song has always felt special to me. It reminds me of my parents when I was really little, and it’s also played a big part in my sound as a musician. I’ll never get sick of it, ever!

The Special Two by Missy Higgins. This song reminds me of my siblings. I’ve always loved Missy Higgins as well, and I’m pretty sure she wrote this song for her sister!!

American Pie by Don McLean. Another one that reminds me of being a kid. I always think about my dad with this one – we used to sing along to it in the ute with the windows down.

The Climb by Miley Cyrus. Now, who would I be if not for Hannah Montana? This song was a pivotal moment for me at the ripe age of six.

One and Only by Adele. This is also one of the songs that has very much defined my music. It just builds in such a beautiful way.

Your music is the perfect soundtrack for…

I think my music is so all over the place that it would be the perfect soundtrack for a coming-of-age movie – but not just through early life. I think my music could tell a story through someone’s whole life.

Who would be your dream support act, past or present?

Ooo, this is such a hard one! If it was someone who is still alive, definitely Lake Street Dive would be a huge one for me, or Leon Bridges. Or RAYE. I absolutely love, love, love her!

If it was someone from the past, there are definitely a few. I’m a very big fan of Miss Amy Winehouse, so that would be huge, or Aretha Franklin. I could honestly go on forever about my dream support!

What do you care about outside of music?

I’m always surrounded by such special people. I’m a pretty social person and I just love people! I spend a lot of time watching my friends perform, whether that be a play, dance, a gig or even playing a sport they love.

I also really love nature, especially when I’m at home down south. I love being out bush, camping and swimming.

What’s something you’re obsessed with at the moment?

I am super-duper obsessed with sweet potato right now. It’s just, like, the perfect vegetable.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

My go-to karaoke song is definitely Feeling Good by Michael Bublé. It’s so fun to have a sing to!

A TV show everyone loves that you just don’t get?

I’m gonna get absolute backlash for this, but I’ve never seen the hype for Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I’M SORRY! But I just get bored. Maybe I need to give it more of a chance. My sister loves it, so maybe she can help me see the potential.
