Opening Night: Kambarang/Birak Exhibition Season (‘Net of Time’ and ‘Legal Ghost’)
As the weather warms, our Kambarang / Birak season presents two exhibitions that foster connection and invite us to consider new ways of working together. Grounded in artistic collaboration and with a rich focus on processes of mutuality and dialogue, the works and experiences presented by these artists are responsive and create networks of sharing and exchange.
NET OF TIME is a long-term collaborative project by Munich-based artist Helen Britton and Perth-based artist Justine McKnight, that explores personal and cultural memory through wearable forms, talismans, sound and textile assemblages.
Legal Ghost is the culmination of almost a decade of collaboration between WA-based artists Stephen Brameld and Jay Staples. In a process akin to surrealistic automatic painting, the artists suppress conscious control of the art-making process and access material from their unconscious and shared processes. The artists describe their collaboration as forming a third mind or space, generating a new perspective (or ghostly presence) that sits outside of artists intention or ego.
