JSUK HAN JOINS WALYALUP FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE FOR 2026 RESIDENCY IN COLLABORATION WITH INCHEON ART PLATFORM
Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre (WFAC) is delighted to welcome JSUK Han as the incoming artist for the Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre and Incheon Art Platform Artist in Residence Exchange, delivered in collaboration with Incheon Art Platform (IAP) in South Korea.
JSUK Han is an artist working across sound, sculpture and installation, with a practice grounded in feedback, resonance and spatial listening. Using self-built audio systems, Han creates site-responsive works that make audible the often-unseen relationships between place, memory and environment. His work has been presented across Korea in both solo and group exhibitions, including at Nam June Paik Art Center, Arko Art Museum and Seoul Arts Center, and he was a participant in the 2024 Seoul Arts & Tech Festival <Unfold X>.
During his residency at Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre, Han will develop a new sonic installation that responds directly to its surroundings. Drawing from field recordings of Fremantle’s harbour and coastal environments, the resonant architecture of the historic Arts Centre buildings, and feedback-based sound systems, the project will evolve as a living sound ecology shaped by environmental sound, spatial acoustics and movement. The work positions sound as a vessel for place, ecological rhythm and layered local histories of Walyalup Fremantle.
Han’s recent practice has expanded through interdisciplinary collaboration with artists working in architecture, circus and subcultural contexts, reflecting a growing interest in how sound operates across social and spatial boundaries. His residency will continue this line of enquiry, situating listening as a way of engaging deeply with site and environment.
JSUK Han is in residence at WFAC from February 15 2026 to the end of April 2026.
This residency forms part of WFAC’s annual international Artist in Residence Exchange and marks the second Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre and Incheon Art Platform Artist in Residence Exchange. The reciprocal program will also see a Western Australian artist undertake a residency at IAP in Incheon later in 2026, with that artist announcement to follow.
