Maatakitj
Noongar singer and guitarist Clint Bracknell from the south coast of Western Australia. Maatakitj, Clint’s nickname, means‘legs like spears’. He sings in Noongar, his Indigenous language from Western Australia’s southwest, and is committed to creating new songs in one of the world’s longest continuing music traditions.
Maatakitj toured Australia with Grammy-award winner Angelique Kidjo in 2024. In 2023, he premiered Bindari with the world renowned Kronos Quartet. Maatakitj and ARIA-award winning producer Paul Mac produced the dance album Noongar Wonderland in 2022.
As Professor of Music at UWA, he activates deep connections between song, language, and landscapes underpinning significant productions such as SONG CIRCLE.
Clint has composed for Australian theatre over the past two decades and co-produced the Australian podcast series Song With No Boss for ABC Radio National. He is also a lead voice actor in Fist of Fury Noongar Daa, the audacious and ground-breaking Noongar language dub of the 1972 Bruce Lee film.
