About this Class
Explore the expressive possibilities of soft ground etching in this two-week mini course with artist and printmaker Vanessa Lombardo. Whether you have some experience with etching or are completely new to the process, you’ll be introduced to this versatile intaglio technique and discover how it can capture delicate lines, textures and impressions.
Across two sessions, you’ll learn how to prepare copperplates for soft ground etching before experimenting with hand-drawn marks and pressed textures. Using botanicals, natural materials and other found or readymade objects, you’ll explore how soft ground can capture intricate details and subtle textures that create beautiful, distinctive prints.
With guided demonstrations and plenty of opportunity for experimentation, this relaxed mini course will help you build confidence with the process while discovering the unique qualities of soft ground etching.
