Oil Painting with Richard

About the class

Designed for both beginners and more advanced levels, this course with Richard will build your confidence in oil painting no matter where you are in your journey.

Richard will provide hands-on demonstrations and personalised one-on-one guidance tailored to your individual skill level. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or refining an existing technique, this class will help you take your painting to the next level.

Over eight weeks, you’ll develop skills in colour mixing, form and tone, and visual composition while creating multiple works and developing your own artistic style.

Participants should bring a basic painting kit. Additional materials will be supplied throughout the course. As your confidence with the medium grows, you’ll have opportunities to expand your toolkit and experiment with new materials, techniques, and approaches.

What to bring:

• Canvas boards or stretched canvas (no smaller than an A3).
• Oil paints (Daler Rowney Georgian recommended): Titanium White, Cadmium Red (hue), Phthalo Blue, Ivory Black, Yellow Ochre.
• Brushes (various sizes, minimum size 1).
• Odourless solvent and linseed oil.
• Jars with lids and rags.
• Palette (disposable recommended).
• Portrait photo (if painting a portrait).
• Still life objects or photos (if working from life).

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
