About the class
Spend a day in the jewellery studio at Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre with contemporary jeweller and artist Teri Bartolo, learning the craft of wax carving and creating your very own ring.
With more than 10 years’ experience as a practising jeweller, Teri brings her own jewellery practice and extensive teaching experience to the studio. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Diploma in Jewellery, Teri has worked alongside Australian jewellery favourite Millie Savage and has taught and inspired creatives across Perth, Melbourne and Glasgow.
With a passion for natural form and detail, Teri will guide you through the process of designing and carving a ring in jeweller’s wax. Learn about different waxes, carving techniques, texturing, form and shape as you enjoy a day in our beautiful heritage studio.
At the end of the workshop, your wax ring will be sent away to be cast in sterling silver. Teri will then professionally finish your ring, ready for you to collect approximately three weeks after the class. We’ll email you when your finished ring is ready!
No previous jewellery-making experience is required.
What’s included
Your class fee includes everything you need to make one sterling silver ring with a maximum weight of 5g (plenty enough to design your bespoke ring). You will create your wax ring in class, then following the workshop, your wax model will be cast externally in sterling silver to become your finished ring. Once cast, Teri will professionally clean up and finish your piece, and we’ll then send an email to let you know when your piece is ready for collection (approximately three weeks after class).
Unfortunately, due to the additional time that would be required to clean up and finish pieces, additional rings or pieces heavier pieces significantly over 5g cannot be accommodated. Similarly, due to casting fees, this class is exclusive to sterling silver. If you are interested to learn about the finishing process and create more than one piece, we encourage you to attend our multiweek Lost Wax course held either on Friday morning or afternoon.
Building Accessibility
Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

Meet your tutor
Teri Bartolo
Teri Bartolo is an Australian artist and jeweller originally from Melbourne and now based in Perth. She holds a BA of Fine Arts in Sculpture from RMIT University and a Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design from Melbourne Polytechnic. Her jewellery-making journey began while studying at RMIT, where she developed a passion for the intricate and meticulous processes of gold and silversmithing. Teri went on to live and practise in Glasgow from 2020 to 2025, continuing to develop her jewellery practice and work within the local arts community.
Teri has been making jewellery for over 10 years and enjoys sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for jewellery making through hands-on teaching. She loves helping students develop their skills, experiment with materials and discover the satisfaction that comes from making something by hand. Her workshops are relaxed and encouraging, with a focus on building confidence while allowing students to explore their own creative ideas.
Inspired by nature, coastal landscapes and the act of beachcombing, Teri’s jewellery practice explores the organic forms, textures and details found along the coastline. She is drawn to discovering unusual shapes, surfaces and natural objects, and translating these qualities into wearable pieces. Working primarily with recycled precious metals, Teri uses casting and fabrication techniques to create handmade jewellery with a strong emphasis on form, texture and detail. Her pieces reflect the tactile qualities of the natural objects that inspire them, transforming elements of the coastline into considered, wearable objects.
Alongside her jewellery practice, Teri has experience facilitating creative workshops for a range of ages and abilities. She enjoys introducing students to jewellery-making processes and creating an environment where they can experiment and find their own creative approach. Her teaching encourages curiosity, creativity and confidence, while making jewellery accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
