About the class

Join Bina Butcher for this 8-week introduction to printmaking, designed to give you the opportunity to explore a range of traditional and contemporary printmaking processes in a supportive, hands-on studio environment.

Across the course, you’ll be introduced to a variety of techniques including monoprinting, drypoint etching, lino printing and more, learning how each process can be used to create unique and expressive prints. You’ll get hands-on experience working with etching presses, preparing and applying inks, and working in a printmaking studio.

Bina will guide you through each technique step-by-step, from developing an idea and preparing your plate or block, through to inking, operating the press and pulling your final print.

The course is perfect for complete beginners wanting to try printmaking for the first time, as well as those who already have some experience and would like to expand their knowledge, experiment with new processes and develop their printmaking practice.

What to Bring

  • Your own tools and cutting blades (if you have them)
  • Sketchbook and pencils for planning your designs
  • Apron or old clothes you don’t mind getting ink on
  • If you have specific inks or papers you prefer, feel free to bring them

If you’re new to lino printing and don’t have tools yet don’t worry, basic materials will be provided for you to get started.

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

We acknowledge these limitations and are committed to improving accessibility where possible. We continue to explore ways to make our programs more inclusive and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions.
