Afterschool art Classes: Screen-printing and stencil wearable art

Discover the exciting world of screen printing and create your own wearable works of art. In this hands-on 6-week course, young artists will learn the basics of screen printing and stencil making while exploring creative ways to design unique prints.

Bring along two A4-sized black-and-white images of yourself, a favourite person, or an animal, and learn how to transform them into screen-printing stencils using mineral paper and cutting tools. Participants will also experiment with brushes, textures, and geometric stencil shapes to create bold and colourful designs.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have printed two one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art and some small posters to take home.

What to bring:

  • A water bottle and snack or lunchbox for longer classes
  • A sunhat for any outdoor breaks
  • Bring your own light-coloured T-shirt or tote bag made from natural fibres (cotton or linen)
  • two A4-sized black-and-white images (portrait, person, or animal)
  • All materials included.

What to wear:

  • Closed toed shoes
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting messy.

Drop off and Pick Up:

  • All parents/guardians need to drop off and pick up their child from the studio
  • No students will be permitted to leave without written confirmation by a parent/guardian.

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

Meet your tutor

Odile Bell

Odile is a Fremantle-based artist, screen printer, and creative educator inspired by the beauty of the natural environment. Since 2018, she has run a bespoke screen-printing practice creating nature-inspired handmade and wearable pieces designed to bring beauty into everyday life.
Alongside screen printing, Odile creates playful cyanotype works influenced by her interest in art therapy. She also teaches screen printing and cyanotype workshops and loves sharing the creative process with others, especially witnessing the magic and confidence that emerges when students surprise themselves with what they can create.
