Create your own unique jewellery and discover the exciting world of contemporary metalsmithing in this hands-on 6-week after-school workshop with jeweller Alida.
Learn professional jewellery-making techniques as you design and craft your own wearable pieces from start to finish. Students will develop skills in measuring ring sizes, calculating ring lengths, sawing, soldering, filing, sanding and polishing metal. Personalise your creations with roller-printed textures, decorative stamps, lettering and unique surface designs.
A special highlight of this workshop is the opportunity to learn the fascinating art of sandcasting, a rare and exciting jewellery-making process that transforms impressions into solid metal. Using objects pressed into sand moulds, students will create one-of-a-kind forms before taking part in the thrilling casting process. Under expert guidance, participants will witness metal being melted and poured into moulds to create their own wearable artworks.

Meet your tutor
Alida Cappelletta
Alida has been tutoring jewellery-making for over 15 years and continues to enjoy the dynamic exchange that teaching brings. She values the opportunity to pass on skills while also finding inspiration in her students’ creativity and fresh perspectives.
Inspired by texture, form and the rhythm of making by hand. Her work explores the contrast between rustic surfaces and structured forms, resulting in tactile, wearable and functional pieces. Her practice is rooted in a curiosity for process and materials, often leading her to experiment with new techniques to develop contemporary, wearable pieces.
Alongside her jewellery practice, Alida also creates functional ceramics, through hand building techniques. These raw, tactile forms carry the subtle imprint of the maker and reflect her ongoing interest in the beauty of the handmade. She has conducted numerous hand building clay workshops, where she shares her approach to working with clay and encourages others to discover the quiet satisfaction of shaping forms by hand.
