Ragnar Kjartansson | The End

Critically lauded and named one of the “ten exhibitions that will define 2015” by artshub, The End showcases celebrated Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson’s acumen in music, film and performance as part of the 2015 Perth International Arts Festival.

Filmed against the stark, snow-laden Canadian landscape, The End – Rocky Mountains is a five channel music and video installation. The beautiful yet melancholy visuals, coupled with a unique folk-country soundtrack, provide a sensory experience which is poetic, compelling and whimsical.

A number of Kjartansson’s other works, including video installations and a series of watercolours will also be on display.

Kjartansson’s work The Visitors will be on show at John Curtin Gallery during the same period. This immersive nine-channel musical video installation features nine intimate portraits of Kjartansson and his friends, recombined in a rapturous ode to femininity.

This double bill provides a comprehensive insight into Kjartansson’s energy and breadth of work.
