Stewart Scambler| Parched: Australia Is A Dry Land

Standing alone in the desert or forest can provoke an awareness of our own ‘smallness’ and insignificance in the greater world. It is this idea, and the sense that our physical impressions on the ground are lasting records of our existence that is explored in ceramicist Stewart Scambler’ Parched: Australia Is A Dry Land.
Scambler is one of FAC’s longest serving tutors and a respected artist in his own right. For this exhibition he has pushed the limits of clay work and firing techniques in response to not only larger narratives of identity and land but in recognition of a drying continent as we crowd more and more onto the wet fringes of the landscape.
