Moya McKenna | Sowing parts for uncertain meetings

Occupying the space between figuration and abstraction, Melbourne painter Moya McKenna fills her compositions with rural Gothic figures, animals, iconic landmarks and elements from nature, to create landscapes both familiar and disorienting.

Sowing parts for uncertain meetings celebrates McKenna’s use of colour and texture, where syrupy browns and blues are thickly layered, giving the viewer a strong sense of the materiality of painting and the visual pleasure of colour.

McKenna holds a degree from the Victorian College of the Arts and has exhibited in Primavera at Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, a prestigious annual exhibition celebrating young contemporary Australian artists.
