Jonathan Jones (Sydney and Sriwhana Spong (Auckland) juxtapose elements of light and darkness in the spaces of the Arts Centre deploying video, objects and different lighting technologies to invite a critique of site and history.

Referencing their respective cultural backgrounds (Jones – Kamillaroi/wiradjuri and Spong – Balinese), their exhibition is the blending of worlds illuminated by the Balinese shrine, popular culture, the common fluro tube and an interest in pattern making.

Jones recently participated in New08 at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, and Lines in the Sand, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Sydney. In 2006 he was the winner of the Xstrata Coal Emerging Indigenous Art Award and he is represented by Gallery Barry Keldoulis, Sydney.

Spong has just completed a four-month residency at the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York. In 2007 she has a solo exhibition, Beetlejuice, at Artspace, Sydney, and was also included in Turbulence 3^rd Auckland Triennial, as well as being included in the publication, Speculation, New Zealand’s representation at the 52^nd Venice Biennale.
