Face Value | City of Fremantle Art Collection

Portraiture is perhaps the most poignant attempt in art to deny mortality. Face Value presents a selection of images drawn from the City of Fremantle Art Collection which reveal the mysterious power of the portrait.

Beyond the superficial account of likeness, this exhibition contrasts idealised formal portraits with a range of naturalistic, satirical and psychological studies of character. Many are honest, uncompromising investigations of personality while other works harness this pervasive genre as a foundation for creative experiments and parody.
