Writing Poetry with Prema Arasu
In this 6-week writing course run by published poet and writer Prema Arasu, you will explore the history, theory and practice of poetry writing together with a welcoming group of fellow writers. We will trace poetic traditions from antiquity to the present and experiment with a wide variety of forms: heroic verse, sonnets, lyric poetry, imagism, found-object poems, slam and free verse. You are invited to share your own work and workshop your poems with supportive feedback aimed at preparing pieces for possible publication.
Whether you are new to poetry or have some experience, Prema will support you to deepen your practice, strengthen confidence and connect with a community of creative peers.
What to bring:
- Notebook and pens or,
- A laptop or tablet.

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

Tutor Prema Arasu
Prema Arasu is a poet, writer and academic based in Perth. They hold a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Western Australia, where their thesis The Anatomy of Witchcraft was shortlisted for the 2023 Fremantle Press Fogarty Literary Award. Prema’s work explores mythology, speculative fiction, and the ways imagination shapes our understanding of the world. They teach creative writing and literature at the WFAC and are passionate about helping others find their voice through poetry and storytelling.
