Introduction to Creative Writing: Three Day Workshop for Teens

With Prema Arasu

Ignite your imagination in this dynamic three-day creative writing session designed for teens. Guided by creative writer Dr Prema Arasu, you will explore the exciting world of storytelling through a range of creative writing forms including the short story, poetry, and non-fiction.

Students will be encouraged to but not required to share their work with the class for feedback.

What to bring:

  • A water bottle and snack or lunchbox for longer classes
  • A sunhat for any outdoor breaks
  • All materials included.

What to wear:

  • Closed toed shoes
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting messy.

Drop of and Pick Up:

  • All parents/guardians need to drop off and pick up their child from the studio
  • No students will be permitted to leave without written confirmation by a parent/guardian.

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

Meet your tutor

Prema Arasu

Prema Arasu is a poet, writer and academic based in Perth. They hold a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Western Australia, where their thesis The Anatomy of Witchcraft was shortlisted for the 2023 Fremantle Press Fogarty Literary Award. Prema’s work explores mythology, speculative fiction, and the ways imagination shapes our understanding of the world. They teach creative writing and literature at the WFAC and are passionate about helping others find their voice through poetry and storytelling.
