About the class
Join fibre artist Cath Inman for a deep dive into weaving with foraged natural materials. Over four weeks, you’ll explore basketry and sculptural forms using plant fibres, building skills in paired twining and developing greater consistency and pattern in your work.
You’ll learn decorative ways to begin basket bases and finish borders, along with techniques for increasing and reducing spokes to create more sculptural forms. Working with foraged fibres, reclaimed fabrics, and sustainable materials, you’ll experiment with soft twining methods including reverse paired twining and three-strand waling.
There will be opportunities for discussion around foraging, processing, and preparing plant fibres for weaving. The course is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.
Cath’s practice centres on sustainable, low-waste making, encouraging thoughtful approaches to materials and process. The classes offer a calm and supportive environment, with space for experimentation, connection, and individual creativity.
No prior experience is necessary.
Plant materials may vary slightly due to seasonal availability.
What to bring:

Meet your tutor
Cath Inman
Her work in basketry and weaving emerged organically from her own garden with an urge to recover and repurpose green waste. Drawn to the sculptural and textural potential of plant materials, she began exploring how these natural elements could be transformed into meaningful art. Cath is guided by an inherent sensitivity to detail, often noticing the subtle beauty in the overlooked. She is a constant collector of natural treasures and detritus, integrating them into her works in innovative and decorative ways.
As her practice evolved, so did her awareness of a collective longing - among friends, community members, and workshop participants for a deeper connection, creativity, and environmental mindfulness. This recognition inspired her to begin facilitating regular workshops, where she teaches plant foraging, weaving, and basketry techniques.
Cath creates inclusive, grounding spaces where participants can reconnect with themselves, each other, and the local landscape. Sharing ancient weaving and basketry skills she is most inspired by bringing people together and nurturing creativity in ways that tread lightly on the earth.
