Sunday Music: The Feel Alrights + New Phono

the feel alrights

Based in Perth, The Feel Alrights are a dynamic four-piece rock band that seamlessly merges the psychedelic and garage sounds of the 60s and 70s with a fresh and vibrant approach. With four years of live performances under their belts and the recent release of their debut album, they are rapidly making a name for themselves in the music scene.

Sometimes you need to tear it all down and start again. Once prominent on Boorloo’s indie-pop scene, The Bank Holidays shared stages with Deerhoof, Belle & Sebastian and Caribou, toured Australia and Europe, and released two acclaimed albums and EPs. Then life intervened, and the group scattered across the globe to Canada, Norway and Naarm.

Finding themselves back in their home city, the group reformed. Their first collective effort was to put a roof over their heads, with four out of five members ending up as neighbours on a communal block in Boorloo. A new collection of songs was born from this co-operative process — scribbled lyrics, shared musical foundations, and recordings passed over fences — building a new voice and a new sound together.

New Phono is the result. Following their live debut in 2024, the group’s debut album Troubleshoot the Rain was released in October 2025.

Created across Wadandi and Whadjuk land, the album sees sweeping synths and jagged guitars rub shoulders with art pop and new wave, all brought into focus by lead vocalist Bekk Crombie.

Like an imaginary soundtrack to Twin Peaks if directed by Wes Anderson, carefully crafted pop forms are engulfed by strange undercurrents. New Phono twist the familiar into fresh shapes, imbuing compelling melodies with sonic oddity and uncommon lyrical perspectives.

Troubleshoot the Rain canvasses the abstraction of modern work, the ways ideas and ways of living are passed down through families, and the beauty and futility of our digital futures.
