Bloom n Bark is an immersive exhibition by artist Jane Ryan, bringing together painting and textile works that reimagine the landscapes, gardens and companions that have shaped her life. Drawing on memories of her childhood in New Zealand, Ryan’s works are vibrant acts of remembrance — tender, joyful and deeply personal.
At the heart of the exhibition are imagined visions of her mother’s garden: places of colour, care and abundance, reconstructed through memory rather than direct observation. Flowers bloom in heightened palettes, guided by feeling and intuition. These gardens are not fixed locations, but emotional landscapes — spaces of comfort, longing and connection.
Alongside these floral works are affectionate depictions of dogs, with a particular focus on Ryan’s beloved dog Baz. Rendered with warmth and devotion, these works celebrate companionship, loyalty and love, acknowledging the profound role animals play in shaping emotional life. Together, blooms and barks form a shared language of nurture and presence.
Textiles play a central role in Ryan’s practice, shaping both form and colour across the exhibition. Fabric introduces tactility and rhythm, extending the emotional resonance of her paintings into material space. Her use of textiles reflects a hands-on, intuitive approach, where making becomes a way of thinking, remembering and feeling.
Executed with a natural understanding and love of colour, Jane Ryan’s work invites viewers into a world shaped by memory, care and imagination. Bloom n Bark is a celebration of the places and beings that stay with us — held, cherished and joyfully re-envisioned.
