Emily Lubitz

Fremantle Arts Centre is proud to present Emily Lubitz in her first solo performance in Western Australia. After more than a decade touring with critically acclaimed indie-folk darlings Tinpan Orange, Emily Lubitz is striding out on her own having combined forces with some of the country’s finest musicians to create a new, darkly romantic folk vision.

Very few artists can cradle your heart in their hands whilst they kick your ass. But, the six-foot tall frontwoman with the gossamer voice does just that. As quoted by The Age, “Emily’s exquisite, brushed-velvet vocal conjures a steady neck-hair raising waltz”. With a timeless, aching quality that only great voices have, Lubitz is every singer’s favourite singer; a captivating live performer who has won the hearts of audiences around the world. More priestess than popstar, Lubitz has created her own iconography that sears itself into the listener’s imagination. Described as “Strikingly assured” by Rolling Stone Australia, Lubitz prowls the stage with the gravitas of a giant Edith Piaf stalking through a post-apocalyptic Laurel Canyon, with her friends from East Brunswick in tow.

Emily Lubitz is supported by Jess Ribeiro. Recently nominated for the Environmental Music Prize for her song In Love With This Place, Jess Ribeiro has cemented herself as one of the Australian underground’s most engaging and unpredictable creative forces and her evolution is only just beginning. A shape-shifting musical enigma, the near-untouchable quality of Jess’s recorded output is astonishingly consistent and the wait for new music is always worthwhile.
