Have you heard of “stitch ‘n’ bitch”? Now it’s time to experience it! Submit an image of someone lost to the HIV/AIDs epidemic who had an impact on you. It can be an artist, unknown superstar or someone you love and use your chosen portrait to pay homage to your loved ones with sequined embellishments.
In the spirit of the AIDS Quilts from the ‘80s and ‘90s and inspired by The Huxleys’ Bloodline Quilt from the Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams exhibition, contribute a panel to a new quilt, remembering histories, stories, and queer culture. Designed as an evolving project, new quilt panels will be submitted over time, fostering a dialogue of queer storytelling and history that must never be forgotten.
You must submit your image to exhibitions_fac@fremantle.wa.gov.au and we will have the image prepared and printed on calico when you arrive.
“The work we do is only possible because of these artists. They fuelled us, fed us and set us free. They should still be with us today. They fought, and shone brightly. We stand on the shoulders of these giants and we carry their torch. We hope these works shine light onto icons and heroes, known and unknown. Sharing our collective queer history with as much love and sequins that we can muster.” – The Huxleys
