About the class
Build your skills from the ground up in this 6-week course with experienced artist Sean Wain. Starting with drawing techniques and observational skills, you’ll gradually move into working with oil paint to develop a finished still life.
You’ll explore composition, learn to see and translate what’s in front of you, and gain confidence with colour and paint handling. Sean will guide you through each stage, demonstrating techniques and offering individual feedback as you develop a painting based on your own chosen objects and personal composition.
By the end of the course, you’ll have completed a beautiful oil painting of your selected still life and gained a deeper understanding of the process from first sketch through to final work.
What to bring:
- An apron
- Notebook
- 2 to 3 objects of varying sizes that could be used as subject matter for your piece. These might be objects with sentimental meaning or personal significance, or simply items that are visually interesting together.
Building Accessibility
Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
We acknowledge these limitations and are committed to improving accessibility where possible. We continue to explore ways to make our programs more inclusive and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions.
Should you, or the person you are enrolling for, have any other additional requirements, please include these details when booking. Should you wish to chat to one of our friendly team, feel free to contact Reception on 9432 9555 or email ArtsCentre@fremantle.wa.gov.au to discuss any individual needs.
