Screenprint and Stitch

With Angela Ferolla

Design and print your own fabric, then turn it into a wearable piece.

In this hands on class with Angela Ferolla, you will learn the fundamentals of screenprinting on textiles and experiment with colour, layering and pattern to create your own custom printed fabric. After printing your fabric, you will use it to sew a simple garment such as a top, skirt or dress, transforming your design into a one of a kind piece you can wear.

The screenprinting component is open to beginners and introduces the core techniques used to print on fabric. Some basic sewing skills are recommended for the garment construction portion of the class. This course is ideal for anyone interested in exploring screenprinting and textile techniques while creating a unique handmade garment.

What to bring:

  • A sewing machine in good working order (WFAC has four machines available should you wish to borrow one of ours – please get in touch to reserve one)
  • A basic sewing kit (if you have one)
  • Apron
  • Various old fabric for test prints (roughly 5 pieces at A4 size)
  • 2meters of fabric to print on (this will be discussed in the first class)
  • Any photos to inspire your design
  • Angela will advise you during the first lesson what sort of item of clothing, fabric and other materials you will need to bring along for the following weeks
