Exploring Abstract Painting (Acrylics)

About the class

Artist Richard Gunning introduces the students to the diverse possibilities of abstract art. The course is ideal for anyone who feels like stepping out of the confines of representational painting and gaining a better understanding of this stream of visual art. Students will be led through a series of projects to help them to create a set of paintings that cover the main movements in Abstract Art.
Beginners and more experienced students are equally welcome, the sessions will cater all levels and interests.

What to bring

• Notebook
• Selection of acrylic, round and flat (filbert) sizes 2, 4, 6, 8
• Flat Palette
• 2 x jars with lids
• Clean rags
• Apron
• At least one canvas or board to begin with- no smaller than (canvas/boards and preparing surfaces will be discussed in the first class)
• Acrylic paints – (Chromacryl/ A2/Atelier/Matisse structure):
  o Titanium white
  o Warm Red – cadmium red or napthol scarlet
  o Cool Red – alizarin crimson or quinacridone red
  o Warm Blue – ultramarine
  o Cool Blue – phthalo blue
  o Warm Yellow – cadmium yellow medium or deep, or arylamide yellow.
  o Cool Yellow – cadmium yellow light, or arylamide yellow light, or hansa yellow light, or lemon yellow
  o Optional colours: magenta, viridian or phthalo green, yellow ochre and mars black
• Further materials may be required throughout the course

Building Accessibility
