About the class

Discover the joy of creating bold, contemporary textiles in this hands-on course with artist Roberta Leary. Over six weeks, you’ll explore vibrant colour, playful pattern, and expressive surface design techniques to create your own unique homewares.

Experiment with Procion fabric dyes, stencilling with fabric paints, and other stitching techniques to add texture and detail. Roberta will guide you through building up dynamic, layered designs that can be transformed into cushions, napkins, or other custom home pieces.

This course is perfect for anyone who loves colour and design — whether you’re a beginner or looking to develop your textile skills in a relaxed, creative environment.

You’ll finish the course with a collection of bright, original fabrics and a completed homeware piece that reflects your individual style.

What’s provided:

• Quality linen base fabric for your project
• Fabric dyes, paints, and shared stencils
• Use of brushes, tools, and sewing materials

What to bring:

• Apron
• Sketchbook (A4 or A5)
• Pencil, eraser, sharpener
• Optional: any extra items you’d like to print on (e.g. tote bag, tea towel, tablecloth, , pillowcase or t-shirt)

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
