About the class
Create your very own dreamy pair of personalised pyjamas in this beginner-friendly sewing course with fashion designer and textile artist Lucy Aboagye. Learn the essentials of sewing — from reading patterns and cutting fabric to stitching, finishing, and adding your own creative touches.
Choose from luxurious silk or cozy cotton and finish the class with a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pair of PJs designed by you. This hands-on course is perfect for anyone new to sewing, combining practical skills with creative expression in a fun and supportive environment.
What to Bring
- Your chosen fabric (see meterage and recommended fabrics below)
- Matching thread
- 3m of bias binding to match your fabric (or make your own in class)
- Sewing machine (please contact us if you do not have a machine available as we have a small number of machines available)
- Fabric scissors, pins, and measuring tape
Recommended Fabrics
Cotton, Linen, linen blends, silk satin (for beginner – intermediate sewers), viscose.
Fabric Requirements (based on 140cm wide fabric):
- Size 6: 1.5m
- Size 8-10: 1.6m
- Size 12-14: 1.8m
- Size 16: 2m
Building Accessibility
Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

Meet your tutor
Lucy Aboagye
Drawing inspiration from her Ghanaian heritage, architecture, music, and the strength of influential women, Lucy’s work celebrates beauty in its raw and expressive forms. After leaving the fashion industry, she discovered a love for pottery, finding peace and creativity in working with clay. Lucy now shares her passion for both textiles and ceramics through teaching, encouraging others to explore their own artistic journeys.
